Nuzlocke Challenge Part 3: The Phoenix Rises from the Ashes

My Nuzlocke continues in Pokemon LeafGreen.  In my last post (The Darkest Hour) my team was decimated by Koga (poison master) and only Sprout (Venusaur) survived.

After some luck and grinding my team is back and ready for action.  In order to rebuild I ventured down to the Pokemon Mansion in Cinnabar Island and I got lucky to encounter a Vulpix! YES!

And then on a whim when I was in Celadon City I decided to surf in that water by that dude’s house (where you get softboiled).  I encountered a slowpoke which I caught. It was only level 16 though (and my Venusaur was level 45).

Over the past few weeks I have been doing a lot of grinding to level up a Pigeotto, vulpix, and slowpoke.

After much patience and determination I got my team back on good footing.

So today I went through the Silph Co, defeated my rival, defeated Giovanni, and took care of Sabrina!  My Slowbro did most of the heavy lifting. He is a beast because he has high health, high defense, and he is psychic water type.

My renewed team:

Level 47 Slowslow (SlowBro)

Level 45 Poops (Pigeot)

Level 39 Flame (Ninetales)

Level 49 Sprout ( Venusaur)

Level 13 Armees (Tentacool)   (was going to use that before I got slowpoke)

Level 36 Jet (Pigeot)

my next move is to venture to Cinnabar island and continue my journey!

Pokemon Red Weak Team (Completed) (Chansey, Poliwrath, BeeDrill)

My challenge has been completed. On June 2nd I was able to defeat the Elite four and my rival (named Blue). It was my PIGEOT that dealt the final blow to his level 65 Venusaur.

My team before I made the attempt was:

LEVEL 62 GYRADOS

LEVEL 42 POLIWRATH

LEVEL 37 CHANSEY

LEVEL 51 PIDGEOT

LEVEL 37 OMANYTE

LEVEL 28 BEE DRILL

(I think it was a guy online or maybe on Quora who suggested this weak team).  Nobody on my team knew how to use: Earthquake, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Blizzard, or any Psychic moves.  Also no TRI ATTACK and NO  rock slide.   My team really did not have that much HITTING POWER.

My main pokemon were the GYRADOS and the PIDGEOT! They were able to deal damage.  Once I evolved my Poliwhirl into POLIWRATH then he became more useful as well.    BEE DRILL was kind of useless most of the game.  And Chansey really is not that great.

I used GYRADOS to beat most of the Elite Four.  it knew Hyper Beam which I upped to 7 PP.     Lorelei has a tricky team if you don’t have  a good electric pokemon, she was a tough first hurdle.   Fighting Bruno was pretty easy, just need water moves and flying moves.

Agatha was tough because her team used lots of CONFUSING moves so that was annoying.  LUCKILY, in this game only NORMAL type moves don’t hit ghosts, so I could still use fighting type moves and flying type moves and bug moves to hit them.  So I actually did use BEE DRILL and Chansey and Pidgeot to beat her team.

LANCE was super easy, I used my Poliwrath on his dragons and they would not attack they only wanted to use AGILITY.   And then his D R A G O N I T E was easy to kill I could use Poliwrath and BEE DRILL.  (THE AI in Gen 1 is pretty stupid in general).

and my rival was not that difficult.  I was able to one shot his ALAKAZAM by having my Gryados use BITE. so that was great.

HONESTLY, the first one, Lorelei, was the toughest because they had good stats and I did not have any super effective moves to hit with.

It was a grind for sure but I am glad I could complete the challenge (which I placed on myself).

I hope the good people of the world will continue to enjoy playing pokemon, especially Gen 1 and Gen 2 games (they are my favorites).
